How to stay smart online this Christmas

th thanks to our friends at DUAL Australia Pty Ltd, here are some tips for staying smart online over the Christmas season.

With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, the threat of potential holiday scams and malicious cyber campaigns is on the rise!

Phishing emails provide a fantastic vessel for ‘bad actors’ to prey on individuals looking for that last minute deal, take advantage of generous charity donations or even impersonate government departments demanding quick payments.

Did you forget that bottle of the family’s favourite spirit for Christmas day? Or forget to buy your child that shiny new toy? Don’t impulsively click on a retailer’s offer, as human error is one of the leading causes of cyber events and disruptions affecting businesses!

Things you need to consider:

  • Do you instruct your employees not to sign up to retailers’ newsletters with their work email?
  • Have you reviewed your spam filter settings?
  • Have you provided phishing awareness training to your employees and created mechanisms to report suspicious emails?

These are some of the things an insured can implement within their organisation as well as seeking online education. The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has hundreds of news publications, advice segments and cyber reports available to help an Insured protect their business.**
